Prison?
Me? No Way!
Killicomaine
pupils discovered what life was like behind bars when the Prison Service visited
the school in November. The annual "Crime Days" programme is part
of the successful "Prison? Me? No Way!" initiative in which prison
officers speak to young people in schools and youth clubs.
This year's theme
was "Crime and the Consequences" with a series of workshops conducted
by the PSNI Druds Squad, NI Fire Service, O2 and prison officers from England.

Children were encouraged to take part in various role-play exercises, simulating
the interaction between homeowners, police officers and young people.
The Fire Brigade
highlighted the havoc caused by hoax 999 calls, while staff from O2 discussed
mobile phone crime.

Deputy Mayor of Craigavon, Mrs McAlinden, called at the school to lend her support.
A local drugs co-ordinator
from the PSNI warned about the health issues surrounding the taking of illegal
substances, while the mother of a boy killed by "joy riders" driving
a stolen car spoke of the devastation caused to families of young victims.

The day finished with a demonstration by the prison dog teams and a prize-giving
ceremony.
