An educational visit to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra takes place each year in October.

You will be divided into 4 groups, each of which will concentrate on a particular theme. You will be finding out about:
Thatch to tile the materials used in building homes
Potions to pills healthcare and hygiene in the 1800s compared with today
Turf to turbine fuels for heating, cooking and lights
Matches to microwaves household equipment in the past and what it was made of

Each group will visit 5 main properties around the park, recording relevant information in booklets prepared by the Science department. (One of our teachers, Mrs McAllister was a member of the team which prepared and published guides for the science project at Cultra.) We usually also manage to fit in a visit to the Victorian Agricultural Museum and the Corner Sweet Shop on Tea Lane.

These are the properties we visit:

Portglenone Bank Manager's House

Meenagarragh Cottier's House

Drumnahunshin Farmhouse

Cruckaclady Farmhouse

Tea Lane

Following the trip we produce classroom displays which include photographs and pupils' classwork.
