Our 9th Year Geography Trip was to Armagh Theatre House for a talk on environmental issues. The talk was called:
The World Within Your Shoe
:: :: ::
We met a man from Wales called Phil Williams. Phil has spent many years in the Rainforest. He told us all about his experiences in the Rainforests and how quickly they are being destroyed.

Phil explained the importance of recycling our waste.
:: :: ::
He took us into the workshop and showed us how to paint jam jars so they could be reused.

We were told that our World is facing a very difficult future if we don't do something to help.

Phil said we were spoilt, greedy and selfish.
:: :: ::
N.Ireland has a very bad record of recycling and this is destroying the environment.

We learnt how important it is to preserve our environment for out children and grandchildren.

We also learnt about the environmental issues concerning the Rainforest and the North Seas.
:: :: ::
And our recycled jam jars turned out lovely.

In the workshop we also recycled old newspapers into new paper. We had to tear the newspaper into tiny little squares.

We put the squares of newspaper into a plastic bottle and half filled it with water.

Phil got us to shake the bottles until the mixture formed a pulp.

The bottle was topped up with water and then it was all poured into a seive.

We placed a nappy liner on top of the pulp and pressed down on it with a sponge to squeeze all the water out.

We used a rolling pin to flatten out the new paper.

The new paper was turned upside down onto a sheet of newspaper and left to dry.

And here is the end result:
